Understanding Your NEI Score™
The NEI Speaking Assessment
NEI uses cutting-edge automated assessment technology to assess your speaking and listening skills. We evaluate you on a 40-point scale, with a total of 10 points possible in each category of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and fluency. The overall score combines these 4 individual scores.
You will receive a Progress Speaking Assessment after you have completed your first 20 lesson units, and after every 24 thereafter. (Your Extra English must be completed to receive a Progress Speaking Assessment.) On average, students improve two points for every 24 lesson units they complete. After every Progress Speaking Assessment, you will meet with your Learning Success Manager (LSM) to discuss your progress and lesson plans.

What does the NEI Score™ mean?
This table shows what the NEI score™ means. The score reflects how effective the learner’s communication skills are in the context of daily conversation and business situations. Learners set their own Target Score, and their visible progress milestones help them stay motivated.
How long will it take me to reach my Target Score?
On average, students improve two points for every 24 lesson units they complete. This chart shows the average improvement for a student with the Core NEI subscription, which is one lesson unit per week. NEI has other subscriptions for more accelerated learning. Intensive NEI is two lesson units per week, and Ultra NEI is three lesson units per week.
