Introduction

Welcome to NEI!

Here is an overview of our program. Please watch if you haven't already.

*This video is available with translated subtitles for lower-level learners.

Sample 1:1

Every NEI 1:1 is made up of 5 elements.

NEI 1:1s have clear expectations for students and teachers and follow a standard procedure with 5 common elements. Within that, they are individualized for the student's goals and language level.

Every 1:1 includes:

  1. A warmup with Small Talk
  2. The Replay Challenge speaking assignment
  3. The Extra English writing assignment from NEI's extensive library of content
  4. A discussion based on a provided Question Set
  5. A brief wrap-up

Watch the video to see the flow and standard elements of an NEI 1:1.

NEI Expectations

At NEI, we've developed an innovative platform that makes it easy for dedicated teachers to help motivated learners.

As part of our commitment to excellence and educational integrity, we are looking for passionate teachers who are ready to bring their expertise and enthusiasm to our community.

What we expect from you:

  1. Commitment to Availability: Dedicate at least 6–10 hours weekly to teaching, with a schedule that aligns with the opportunities listed on the NEI Opportunities page.
  2. Technological Reliability: Maintain high-speed internet and up-to-date hardware to facilitate seamless, high-quality one-on-one sessions. It's crucial that technical issues do not hinder the learning experience, ensuring every session is productive and engaging.
  3. Professional Reliability: Understand that our tolerance for absenteeism in scheduled 1:1 sessions is very low. Reliability is a cornerstone of trust and effectiveness in our educational model.
  4. Adherence to NEI's Standards: Embrace and follow NEI's established procedures with a focus on continuous improvement to maximize students' learning outcomes. This includes making timely and constructive grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary corrections, tailored to each learner's needs.

/r/ is round

NEI offers support to develop your ability to offer timely and concise pronunciation feedback in every 1:1. /r/ is a common challenge for speakers of certain language groups.

The following video is an example of Danny giving /r/ corrections:

▶  Watch video: "Raw" — /r/ pronunciation corrections

Notice his suggestions to make the lips round and prevent the tongue from touching for the /r/ in "Raw."

Notice how Danny uses "1" and "2" to guide the student to the correct pronunciation.

Schedule a 15-minute Conversation

The next step in the application process is to schedule a 15-minute conversation with Danny, our Director of Learning Outcomes.
